Important Information Regarding Procedures for Opening a New GaPac CFCU Account

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

What this means to you:
When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you.  We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.

Existing accounts also affected
In addition to new accounts, government regulations affect how GaPac CFCU treats existing members.

What this means to you:
To comply with Federal requirements, we will ask you and all the owners on your account for more information.  Also, we may ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.

It’s worth the inconvenience
We recognize that these procedures may inconvenience you, but at the same time, GaPac CFCU wants you to know that we strongly support the government’s goal of deterring terrorists and other criminals from using the U.S. financial system.

NOTICE OF NEGATIVE INFORMATION (pre-sharing) Federal law requires us to provide the following notice to members before any “negative information” may be furnished to a nationwide consumer-reporting agency. “Negative Information” means information concerning delinquencies, late payments, insolvency, or any form of default. This notice does not mean that we will be reporting such information about you, only that we may report such information about members that have not done what they are required to do under our agreement. After providing this notice, additional negative information may be submitted without providing another notice.  Legal language: “We may report information about your account to credit bureaus. Late payments, missed payments or other defaults on your account may be reflected in your credit report.”

ADDITIONAL NOTICES:

Please keep your account activeA reminder about your accounts.  Washington State considers an account inactive if not used at least once every 3 years.  In October, all financial institutions will be required to "escheat" to the State, accounts with no activity within the past 3 years.

Listed statement transactionsIf you have checking transactions that are electronically cleared (ACH), they will be listed separately on your statement. This type of check processing is faster and less expensive for merchants.  Electronically cleared checks (ACH), are initiated by the merchants, not by the CU.

Important Information Regarding Opening Future GaPac Account:  Due to the new Patriot Act, effective October 1, 2003, GaPac CFCU is requesting identification from members and joint members when opening a new account.  Even if you are a long time existing member and you need to make an account change, such as a name change, we will need to make a copy of your identification and retain for our records.

GaPac CFCU strongly supports the government's goal of deterring terrorists and other criminals from using any US financial system.  We appreciate your cooperation and patience with this new procedure required by the US Federal Government.
